OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE CREW

Job Summary

Operations and Maintenance Crew assist in maintaining the district’s properties, distribution and drainage system. They report directly to and receive direction from the Water Master. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily inspection of vehicles and equipment for safe operation.
  • Perform daily maintenance as needed at proper intervals.
  • Ability to work safely around fellow employees.
  • Shoveling, concrete construction, operating chain saw, pipeline construction, and carpentry work.
  • Dress appropriately for conditions. Work clothes should be long pants, minimum of short sleeve shirt, and work boots. 
  • Obtain Chemical Applicators License (if applicable) and learn to operate spray equipment.
  • Any other assigned duties and guidelines set forth in Employee Handbook. May be asked to fill in as needed for any position including ditch riding. 


Qualifications

  •  Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Be self-motivated with good communication skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Perform essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely.
  • Possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Possess a Chemical Applicator License and have knowledge of pesticide applications (if required when hired).
  • Be able to work in group setting or alone as necessary.
  • Live within 30 minutes travel time from district shop.
  • Agree to be on-call nights and weekends as needed.
  • Equipment experience is a plus.

This is an hourly position, typical work schedule is 5-8 hour days Monday through Friday in the summer and 4-10 hour days in the winter, however some overtime is necessary. It is mandatory that each O+M position be on call for nights and weekends during the irrigation season as assigned. May be asked to obtain a State of Idaho Applicators License.

DITCH RIDER

Job Summary

This is a full-time, year-round position. During the irrigation season, which is generally April through mid-October, a company vehicle and company cell phone will be issued.  Ditch riders report directly to the District Water Master. Manage water delivery to district patrons accurately and fairly. Perform the day-to-day maintenance of the water facilities on assigned routes. During the off-season they join the Operations & Maintenance Crew and receive direction from the O&M Manager.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Take canal gauge readings daily and report to management by 7:15 AM.
  • Prepare ride for water delivery by burning ditches, clearing debris, installing head gate wheels and locks. Requires supervising an assistant.
  • Make deliveries to patrons based on water rights and direction from management.
  • Make entries on the computer daily, review records as time allows, and report errors to management.
  • Report flooding ASAP to management, write detailed report providing pictures or other information deemed helpful.
  • Respond to all phone text and voice messages.
  • Report all accidents involving District property and employees to management.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for safe operation daily.
  • Work safely around fellow employees.
  • Able to operate chain saw, use shovel, perform pipeline construction, carpentry work, and concrete construction.
  • Dress appropriately for conditions. Work clothes should be long pants, minimum of short sleeve shirt, and work boots. 
  • Follow guidelines in the Ditch Rider Handbook and Employee Handbook.
  • Meet with water users as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  •  Minimum high school diploma or GED with basic computer skills.
  • Be self-motivated with good communication skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Perform essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely.
  • Possess a Class A Driver’s License.
  • Live within reasonable distance from ride boundaries as approved by management.
  • Agree to be on-call 24 hours per day, 7-days/week, ONLY during water season.
