Water Usage Formula

To determine how long you can run a specific number of inches before your allocation is gone, first change your inches into acre feet using the chart above.  Then use the following formula:

Number of Acres  X  Allocation  =  Total Acre Feet

Total Acre Feet  ÷  Acre Feet Ordered (Inches)  =  Days you can run

EXAMPLES:

#1: You have 16 acres, you are allowed 5.00 acre feet for the year and you ordered 10 inches of water.  How long will your water last?

Number of Acres  X  Allocation  =  Total Acre Feet

16  X  5.00   =   80

Total Acre Feet  ÷  Acre Feet (from above)  =  Days you can run

80  ÷  0.4  =  200 days

#2:  You have 16 acres, you are allotted 2.5 acre feet on storage and you ordered 10 inches of water.  How long will your water last?
Number of Acres  X  Allocation  =  Total Acre Feet

16  X  2.5  =  40

Total Acre Feet  ÷  Acre Feet (from above)  =  Days you can run

40  ÷  0.4  =  100 days

#3:  You have 128 acres, you are allotted 2.0 acre feet on storage and you ordered 110 inches of water.  How long will your water last?

Number of Acres  X  Allocation  =  Total Acre Feet

128  X  2.0  =  256.00

Total Acre Feet  ÷  Acre Feet (from above)  =  Days you can run

256  ÷  4.4  =  58 days

#4:  It is September.  You were allotted 307.20 acre feet on storage and you have used 263.5 acre feet.  You have 43.70 acre feet left to use before you are shut off.  How many inches will last you 45 days?

Acre Feet Left  ÷  Days  =  Acre Feet

43.7  ÷  45  =   0.98 Acre Feet  (20-25 inches)

Put your own numbers in the formula to track your water usage.  If you use more than 5.00 acre feet per acre in any season, you will be charged $20.00 per foot for every foot over 5.00 acre feet.

Remember – you are ultimately responsible for the amount of water you use!!
